In late 2018, Mayweather boldly moved to Cape Town, South Africa, to expand his career and life experiences. During his over one-year stay in Cape Town, Mayweather was struck by the poverty and lack of resources for many children in the area. 

This inspired him to start his nonprofit called Kicks for Kids, which provided new shoes to underprivileged youth. His first central charitable act through Kicks for Kids came after devastating fires broke out in the Khayelitsha and Kosovo informal settlements of Cape Town. 

He responded swiftly by donating hundreds of pairs of shoes to children affected by the fires. Mayweather visited the relief areas to help children try on and pick out the shoes.

Seeing the community come together during the tragedy, but also realizing how much need remained, motivated Mayweather to expand his outreach. He set up social media fundraising pages for his nonprofit to allow people worldwide to assist the fire victims.

Mayweather also coordinated with local government leaders like Deputy Minister Zou Kota-Fredericks to provide additional donations of household items, blankets, bedding, and clothing to the families rebuilding after the fires.

In just over a year, Mayweather’s Kicks for Kids nonprofit donated more than 1,400 pairs of shoes to impoverished youth in South Africa. Even after returning from Cape Town, Mayweather has continued his philanthropic efforts through the organization.  

Brashaad Mayweather’s new film ‘Summer with the Guys’

Summer With The Guys marks the directorial debut of Terrence Green. She features a script by Mayweather, Marquese ‘Kese’ Deese, and Heidi Weitzer. 

The comedy focuses on a group of college football players who lose their athletic scholarships and turn to exotic dancing and drug dealing to pay their bills. 

Mayweather plays the role of Bmore, one of the four down-on-their-luck football pals at the heart of the story. Bmore is a friend and teammate of the lead character, D.C., played by director Terrence Green. 

Rounding out their group are Jay and Dan, portrayed by Brannon B. Watts Watson and James Hal Hardy, respectively. Off the field, these four athletes have an entertaining rapport and camaraderie. 

But when their scholarships suddenly get cut, desperation sets in. Led by the scheming Ms. Cash, played by Lina Outler, the friends start working as strippers at a local club. Ms. Cash also forces the guys to take drugs, claiming it will improve their performances. 

As money troubles persist, D.C. branches out into dealing drugs against the better judgment of the group. Mayweather’s character serves as both comic relief and the moral voice urging caution as the four friends spiral more profoundly into the seedy underworld.

As co-writer and supporting actor, Mayweather helped shape Summer With The Guys into a provocative dramedy about brotherhood, privilege, and doing whatever it takes to get by.
