Cree Kawa in ‘V/H/S/99’

In the found footage segment The Gawkers, of V/H/S/ 99, directed by Tyler MacIntyre, Kawa played the role of Mark.

The segment follows a group of teenage friends — Dylan, Kurt, Mark (Kawa), and Boner —  using a video camera to prank people and spy on their attractive new neighbor, Sandra (Emily Sweet).

Kawa’s character, Mark, is one of the leading groups of mischievous teen friends alongside Dylan (Luke Mullen), Kurt (Tyler Lofton), and Boner (Duncan Anderson).

They pressure Dylan’s younger brother Brady (Ethan Pogue) to install spyware on Sandra’s webcam so they can watch her undress. However, they soon realize Sandra is a gorgon creature with snakes for hair who attacks and turns the boys to stone.

So Kawa had a supporting role as one of the group of prankster teen friends who met a gruesome fate in this found-footage horror segment. It allowed him to showcase his acting talents in the horror/thriller genre as part of an ensemble cast.

Cree Kawa’s 2024 film ‘Suncoast’

Suncoast is a 2024 American coming-of-age drama film written and directed by Laura Chinn in her feature directorial debut.

The semi-autobiographical story follows a young woman named Doris dealing with her brother’s serious illness while forming an unusual friendship with an eccentric activist.

In the film, Kawa plays the role of Max, Doris’s brother. Max has a severe illness and is confined to a wheelchair, as depicted in the opening scenes where Doris pushes him home from the pharmacy.

The film centers on Doris, played by Nico Parker, and her strained relationship with her mother, Kristine (Laura Linney), as they navigate Max’s health crisis. Kristine is entirely devoted to Max’s well-being, often neglecting Doris.

Other key cast includes Woody Harrelson as the eccentric activist Paul that Doris befriends. The backdrop of the Terri Schiavo end-of-life case from the mid-2000s also looms over the storyline.

Suncoast premised at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2024 before a theatrical release in February by Searchlight Pictures.
