In the episode, Madam Ching is introduced in 1807 as an ambitious pirate looking to increase her infamy. She destroys a statue imprisoning a Sea Devil, unwittingly releasing the hostile amphibious alien. 

Ching then sets sail to find a legendary lost treasure, crossing paths with the Doctor and companions Yasmin Khan and Dan Lewis. 

A ruthless and cunning pirate captain, Madam Ching, presses Dan and a young boy named Ying Ki into her crew as they face threats from both the chaotic Sea Devils and a mythical sea monster. 

Madam Ching fights alongside the Doctor when the Sea Devils attempt to take over her ship. Ultimately, she claims the lost treasure she had been seeking, noting it will help her regain her captured crew. 

Her performance as the defiant, larger-than-life Madam Ching added to the episode’s adventurous, swashbuckling tone, drawing inspiration from pirate tales and Chinese mythology. 

All about Crystal Yu’s upcoming thriller movie ‘Sunrise’

Yu has a supporting role in the upcoming horror thriller Sunrise, set to be released in theaters and digitally on January 19, 2024. She plays the character of Yan Loi in the film.

Sunrise takes place in a rural town plagued by a vampire. The inhabitants have a secret pact to regularly feed victims, tied to a tree, to the vampire. 

The story centers on Alex Pettyfer as Fallon, the deputy sheriff, who discovers this pact and the vampire preying on the townspeople. Yu’s character, Yan Loi, is one of the townspeople caught in this supernatural curse. 

Details are scarce, but the tension and chaos arising from the vampire threat will likely involve her character somehow.  

The atmospheric trailer highlights the horror and thrills in store from Sunrise, with director Andrew Baird bringing his music video background to bear on the creepy, secretive small town. With Guy Pearce starring as well, this compelling, frightening film puts a fresh spin on vampire lore.

While plot details surrounding Yan Loi are unclear, Yu adds rising star power to the cast—fresh off roles in Doctor Who and Good Omens,” this marks her first feature-length horror film.
