Having grown up in Melbourne and starting her acting career early in Australia, Browning is a homegrown talent whose fame and opportunities have only increased with time.

In this article, we take a closer look at Emily Browning’s background, acting work, and current net worth.

Emily Browning’s net worth and career beginnings

With nearly 25 film credits to her name at 30 years old, Browning has already amassed respectable wealth from her over 20-year acting career. Today, Celebrity Net Worth estimates the Australian actress has a personal net worth of 8 million dollars.

Most of Browning’s wealth comes from on-screen roles starting at a young age. Her acting career began as a child in Australia in 1998 at age 10 when she landed a role in the Hallmark film The Echo of Thunder

Over the next several years, this kicked off a string of Australian TV and film appearances, including recurring parts on Blue Heelers and Something in the Air.

Her breakout role came in 2002’s Ghost Ship, which won Browning the Australian Film Institute Award for Best Young Actress.

Her fame and critical acclaim rose from there with roles in 2003’s Ned Kelly opposite Heath Ledger and as Violet Baudelaire in 2004’s Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events

Now a Hollywood star, the former child actress has since headlined significant studio films like Sucker Punch, Pompeii, and the 2015 Legend reboot.

Combining blockbuster paychecks and over two decades of acting under her belt, Browning has accrued an impressive $8 million net worth.

Emily Browning’s extensive career to date

Since breaking out as a child actress in the early 2000s, Browning has built an impressive resume of roles in major studio films, indies, and TV series. After early career highlights, her star continued rising in the 2010s.

In 2012, she replaced Ophelia Lovibond as the lead in the period drama Summer in February, showcasing her ability to carry films anchored on solid dramatic performances.

That same year, she displayed her musical chops in God Help the Girl, a musical movie that required her to sing live on set.

Continuing to showcase versatility, she went on to roles ranging from the 2013 Sundance indie thriller Magic Magic to the 2014 blockbuster disaster film Pompeii opposite Kit Harington.

Other notable mid-2010s credits include the lead in the art film noir Shangri-La Suite, a supporting turn in the legendary 2015 gangster biopic Legend, and a recurring role as Laura Moon in the Neil Gaiman fantasy series American Gods.

As of 2022, the actress shows no signs of slowing down, with upcoming roles in the Andrea Pallaoro drama Monica and the thriller Brightwater with Scoot McNairy.

Having successfully transitioned from child star to leading indie darling to supporting turns in mainstream hits, Browning boasts one of the more eclectic filmographies of young working actresses today, all by the age of just 30 years old.

Emily Browning in ‘Class of ’07’

After over two decades of dramatic film roles, Browning returned to her native Australia in 2023 to star in her first-ever comedy project – the Prime Video Class of ’07

The 8-episode show centers around Browning’s character Zoe attending her 10-year high school reunion, only to coincide with an apocalyptic tidal wave that leaves the group stranded on their flooded school campus.

She admitted taking on comedy represented a significant change of pace and required moving out of her comfort zone.

Despite her extensive resume of acclaimed films, the Melbourne-born actor embraced the challenge of improv-heavy comedy amidst an ensemble of stand-up comedians and co-stars like Caitlin Stasey.

While best known for dark, dramatic turns, Browning’s co-stars praised her willingness to participate fully and not shrink from the demands of silly comedy.

Class of ’07 incorporates apocalyptic stakes but maintains a warm, relationship-driven tone that creators compared to Orange is the New Black

So, while representing a major swerve from the intensity of something like Legend or American Gods, her starring role in Class of ’07 showcases her range and willingness to take risks after 25 years in the industry.

Stepping into comedy for the first time, the Prime Video series touches on dystopian themes but allows the veteran actor to exhibit a more joyful, light-hearted side in front of audiences.
