Through intimate interviews with well-known Black British entertainers like Naomie Harris, Nathalie Emmanuel, David Ajala, and Verona Rose, Akingbola provides a behind-the-scenes look at the actors’ hidden struggles with their hair.

The documentary uncovers horror stories of hair falling out, damaging weaves, and a general lack of knowledge and skill in handling Afro-textured hair on set.

The documentary also explores the historical context of the treatment of Afro hair, highlighting how methods to “tame,” “control,” and “conceal” the identity of enslaved African women’s hair still resonate today. 

Afro-hair is often seen as something outside and independent of its owner, with many people still seeming afraid of it.

In addition to the testimonies from actors, Akingbola also interviews hair and makeup artists like Kamanza Amihyia, Nora Robertson, and Françoise Hérard, who offer their own experiences and solutions to these issues.

 One of the critical solutions proposed is to start an open conversation about these problems, which may be uncomfortable initially but will ultimately lead to a place where Black women can confidently sit in any professional’s chair and know their Afro hair will be handled appropriately.
