Beyond acting, she collaborated closely with series creator Sam Levinson to ensure her character and Euphoria’s story reflected her real-life experiences and perspective as a trans woman.

Before acting, the now highly sought-after Schafer got her start in modeling. She has leveraged this success to continue modeling while transitioning into acting and activism work advocating for LGBTQ rights.

With prominent roles in Euphoria and the upcoming Hunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Schafer’s star is quickly rising along with her wealth and influence in Hollywood. Her authentic portrayals on-screen are paving the way for better LGBTQ representation in media.

Long before her acting debut, Hunter Schafer established herself as an in-demand fashion model, walking the runway for nearly every major luxury brand.

She’s modeled for Dior, Miu Miu, Calvin Klein, Rick Owens, Tommy Hilfiger, Coach, Maison Margiela, Vera Wang, Marc Jacobs, Versus Versace, Emilio Pucci, Ann Demeulemeester, and Erdem, among numerous other top designers and companies.

Her modeling success and status as a trans activist landed her a spot on Teen Vogue’s coveted “21 Under 21” list and an interview with Hillary Clinton in 2016. She planned to attend the prestigious Central Saint Martins Arts College in London after high school. Hunter Schafer is in the new ‘The Hunger Games’ prequel

Fresh off her breakout success in HBO’s Euphoria, Schafer has landed a vital role in the highly anticipated prequel Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

She will play the character Tigris Snow, the cousin and confidante of the young Coriolanus Snow, who later becomes the tyrannical President Snow in the original Hunger Games trilogy.

In an interview, director Francis Lawrence revealed why he chose Schafer for this role out of the many actresses who auditioned. Her authenticity impressed him, saying, “She’s one of the more authentic people I’ve ever personally met.”

He explained that other actresses focused too much on portraying the flamboyant, Capitol aesthetic of a character like Effie Trinket. However, Schafer embodied the “endearing warmth” needed for Tigris Snow.

As Euphoria demonstrates, she has already proven at a young age her ability to deliver raw, honest performances. These qualities have translated perfectly to the complex character of Tigris.

Fans are eager to see Schafer lend her talent to the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise after The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was released in theaters in the USA on November 17, 2023. This will surely be another high-profile role to propel the rising star’s success even further.

Hunter Schafer on being a trans woman

Schafer has been open about her gender identity as a trans woman in interviews and through her art. She has said that growing up, she was assigned male at birth but always felt drawn to femininity and female gender expression through interests like fashion and art.

Though she suffered from gender dysphoria, she credits the internet and trans visibility on social media for helping her learn about gender transitions and come to terms with her identity.

She officially transitioned into high school after receiving a dysphoria diagnosis in 9th grade. Her modeling career, which also began around this time, enabled her to use fashion as an artistic platform.

She used the platform to break down traditional gender boundaries and bring more visibility to trans experiences. She has spoken about not feeling like a “cis girl” and simply being proud of who she is as a trans woman.

Now a rising voice in Hollywood, Schafer is using her acting career and role on Euphoria to similarly push for more diverse, honest portrayals of transgender characters beyond harmful stereotypes.

She also uses her growing celebrity platform to advocate for LGBTQ rights. For example, in 2021, she was named to Time Magazine’s list of 100 rising leaders shaping the future.

While intensely private about her dating life, rumors linked Schafer and her Euphoria co-star Dominic Fike romantically in early 2022.

However, her focus has remained steadily on elevating trans representation and rights through her personal expression and professional career as a model and actress.
