Josephine Langford is an Australian actress who has rapidly risen to fame in recent years thanks to breakout roles in films like After and Moxie

Born in 1997 in Perth, Western Australia, Langford started acting in small Australian TV shows before landing the lead role in the 2019 romantic drama After.

With her quick rise to fame, she has amassed an impressive net worth at just 26 years old, especially considering her short career thus far.

In this article, we look at some of Langford’s biggest acting roles and accolades and break down how the young star has built up her current net worth.

Josephine Langford’s net worth and career

Langford has amassed an impressive net worth between $3-5 million at 26 years old. This is largely thanks to her breakout lead role as Tessa Young in the commercially successful After film series.

The first After film grossed $69.5 million globally, while the following sequels, After We Collided, After We Fell, and After Ever Happy, grossed $48 million, $21.8 million, and $19.2 million, respectively.

With her as the star and her significant role in the success of these films, she likely earned massive paychecks that greatly contributed to her multimillion-dollar net worth despite her short career.

Likewise, she has also boosted her wealth and fame outside the After franchise through roles in Netflix’s Moxie, Amazon Prime’s The Other Zoey, and Gigi & Nate. As she continues acting in more lead roles, her net worth is expected to grow even higher.

With over 10 credits to her name, award wins, and the success of propelling her fame, Langford is considered a leading Hollywood actress with a bright future and wealth ahead.

Josephine Langford’s role in ‘After’ film franchise

Langford stars as the lead character, Tessa Young, across all the After films. As the central romance story revolves around her relationship with Hardin, played by Hero Fiennes Tiffin, she features prominently throughout the entire series.

Tessa’s character starts out as a dedicated student and loyal girlfriend to her high school boyfriend in the first After film. However, when she begins college, she meets and falls into a tumultuous relationship with the brooding Hardin.

Their on-off courtship continues across the sequels After We Collided, After We Fell, and After Ever Happy as they grapple with overcoming their differences and past familial issues to commit to each other.

As the main star playing the key female lead, Langford now carries significant screen time across five films. Her central performance and chemistry with co-lead Tiffin are crucial to depicting the film’s romantic storyline.

Even with the franchise’s financial success, grossing over $168 million globally, Langford’s prominent contribution has been key and built even further notoriety for her name and acting profile at such a young age.

With the prequel Before and another confirmed sequel centered around Hardin coming up next in the series, Langford is expected to reprise her iconic Tessa role at least once more.

This will cap off her history playing lead over six After installment films that kickstarted her career after initially casting her for the breakthrough part back in 2018’s After.

Josephine Langford was barely there in ‘After Everything’

Langford had significant screen time playing Tessa across the first four After films. However, in a surprising shift for the franchise, she was barely present in the fifth installment – After Everything.

Meanwhile, the previous After movies centered on Tessa’s tumultuous relationship with Hardin, played by Tiffin After Everything, took a detour to focus solely on Hardin’s personal growth.

The film depicts Hardin attempting to make amends with his ex-girlfriend Natalie, whom he wronged in the past by leaking her sex tape. Tessa takes a backseat, with the storyline pivoting to the development of Hardin’s character.

Langford appears only about 15 minutes in After Everything, mainly in flashbacks from old footage. Her limited screen time is likely due to the movie not being based on an actual After book, unlike the other films.

Additionally, Langford had originally signed on for only four movies as part of her contract. With the story continuing into a fifth installment, she probably chose not to renew her contract and return to a major role again.

Langford does not want to stay within her welcome if a character’s return doesn’t make sense.

So, while surprising given Tessa’s importance, Langford’s absence aligns with After Everything’s changed perspective on Hardin and the film, likely going beyond her original contractual commitment.

Josephine Langford’s latest rom-com ‘The Other Zoey’

After wrapping up her lead role in the After Film franchise, Langford quickly moved on to another romantic comedy called The Other Zoey.

Released in theatres on October 20, 2023, the film stars her as Zoey Miller – a college student who pretends to be a soccer player’s girlfriend after he gets amnesia and mistakes her for someone else named Zoey.

The lighthearted rom-com also stars Drew Starkey and Archie Renaux as the love interests, along with Andie MacDowell, Heather Graham, and Patrick Fabian in supporting roles.

It was filmed in North Carolina and marked a departure from the drama-heavy After series, allowing Langford to showcase more comedic timing. In the film, her character, Zoey, is a pragmatic computer science major who doesn’t believe in love and romance.

But that changes when she gets caught up in a case of mistaken identity with an injured soccer player named Zach, played by Starkey. Although there are silly hijinks when his family believes she’s his girlfriend, Zoey falls for Zach’s cousin Miles, played by Renaux.

With fun banter and chemistry between the leads, The Other Zoey offers a classic but enjoyable rom-com formula that Langford was happy to jump into after doing more mature roles.

Reviews praised the light, frothy tone, with Variety calling it “a pleasant enough diversion.”

As Langford’s first big-screen romantic comedy, early reception indicates The Other Zoey to be a success that will please fans of the genre. And it offers the actress more opportunities to show her versatility beyond the After franchise that put her on the map.
