Justin Long is an American actor best known for his comedic film roles in movies like Dodgeball and Accepted and his recurring voice role as Alvin in the live-action Alvin and the Chipmunks films.

Long has also appeared in Apple’s famous “Get a Mac” commercials and starred in shows like Ed and F is for Family. With a career spanning over 20 years in film and television, he has amassed impressive acting credits in genres ranging from comedy to horror.

Now in his 40s, he continues taking on eclectic acting roles, appearing in acclaimed films like 2021’s Barbarian while reprising his role in F is for Family.

In this article, we expand on Long’s acting work and career earnings that allowed him to build his current net worth.

Justin Long net worth and early period of success

Long has amassed an impressive net worth of $14 million. His career began in the early 2000s with breakout roles in hits like Jeepers Creepers and Dodgeball. However, his career and earnings peaked in the late 2000s after his starring role in the 2006 comedy Accepted.

Accepted marked Long’s first leading role in a major Hollywood film. He displayed solid comedic chops and improvisational skills alongside rising stars like Blake Lively and Jonah Hill. The film’s success led to more leading roles for Long over the next few years.

His career reached new heights from 2007-2009. He voiced Alvin in the hugely popular Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise. He also co-starred with Bruce Willis in Live Free or Die Hard and starred in the well-received comedies Zack and Miri Make a Porno and Drag Me to Hell.

Additionally, Long’s role as the laidback “Mac” in Apple’s “Get a Mac” ads made him a recognizable face and boosted his earnings.

However, Long’s career momentum slowed in the early 2010s as he aged out of his niche as a comedy star in his early 20s. He works steadily but focuses more on smaller films and TV than mainstream movies.

Though no longer a marquee headliner, he has over 100 credits and continues adding roles in a different genre, including 2021’s acclaimed horror film Barbarian

Combined with lucrative voice work as Alvin and residuals from earlier hits, he has accumulated an impressive $14 million net worth that should continue growing.

Justin Long has had an exciting transformation in his career

Long has had a versatile career in horror films that showcases his range as an actor after going through the comic phase in his career.

Early on, Long established himself in horror with roles like the terrified victim Darry in Jeepers Creepers, showing he could compellingly convey raw fear. He also played the sympathetic boyfriend role well in films like Drag Me to Hell and After Life

However, Long has recently taken on more complex and unlikable horror characters, marking an exciting transformation. In Tusk, he plays the selfish podcaster Wallace, who endures a bizarre walrus transformation.

This more chauvinistic character was a departure for Long. Similarly, in Barbarian, he plays the sleazy Hollywood executive AJ, who faces a brutal karmic comeuppance.

Long has also shown more comedic range in horror comedies like Yoga Hosers and Ghost Team. As the hippie teacher Yogi Bayer in Yoga Hosers, he got to flex his slapstick comedy muscles. In Ghost Team, he plays the overenthusiastic, wannabe-tough-guy Ross.

So while Long excelled early on at playing the sympathetic victim or boyfriend, his recent horror roles have allowed him to portray more eclectic personalities, from chauvinists to manic hippie goofballs.

He can compel laughs and screams, making him a versatile horror actor with an interestingly transforming filmography.

Rather than being typecast, Long’s horror movie career proves he can disappear into wildly different characters and genres while always keeping audiences invested.

Justin Long’s net worth comparison with his wife

Long has amassed an impressive net worth of $14 million over his 20+ year acting career spanning over 100 on-screen credits. His wife, Kate Bosworth, is following up close with a net worth of $12 million.

She had early box office successes with films like Blue Crush and Superman Returns but later focused on independent films. She has also earned income from brand endorsements with companies like Calvin Klein and Coach.

So Long has built a slightly higher personal net worth than Bosworth by about $2 million. His career has seen more financial highs like that very lucrative 2007-2009 period.

While Bosworth saw early mainstream success, she later opted for smaller passion projects that likely could have paid more lucratively.

However, Long and Bosworth have grown wealth through long, steady acting careers. And together as Hollywood’s newest power couple, their combined star power and net worth is around $26 million.

They seem well-matched both personally and financially. And with both of their careers still active, Long and Bosworth should continue increasing their combined fortunes.

Justin Long’s recent project ‘ts a Wonderful Knife’

It’s a Wonderful Knife is a 2023 horror comedy film with a twisted spin on the classic Christmas movie It’s a Wonderful Life. Instead of realizing all the good she has done, the lead character, Winnie Carruthers, discovers how many deaths she has prevented in her town.

Long plays the role of Henry Waters, Winnie’s father’s shady business partner. In Winnie’s original timeline, she witnesses Henry murder her best friend, Cara, while wearing a mask.

Winnie kills Henry, but a year later, she becomes depressed and wishes she was never born. This transports her to an alternate reality where she never existed, and Henry is still alive as the town’s mayor.

Henry has murdered several more people in this dark timeline, including Winnie’s brother. It’s up to Winnie and her friend Bernie to stop this dangerous killer. So Long gets to play an antagonistic role as a smarmy politician hiding murderous secrets.

The film mixes holiday cheer with slashings and supernatural twists. Reviews have been mixed so far, but critics have praised the performances and say it mostly captures the holiday spirit despite some flaws.

After recent critically acclaimed turns in horror like Barbarian, It’s a Wonderful Knife marks another venture into the genre for Long.

While still bringing his trademark humor, this villainous role shows Long’s versatility as he continues expanding his horror resume.
