Thomas Kretschmann is set to lead the biopic ‘Wagner in Venice’

Kretschmann will play the lead role of famous German composer Richard Wagner in the English-language biopic Wagner in Venice.

The film will chart the journey of Wagner and his wife Cosima as they arrive in Venice following the premiere of Wagner’s opera ‘Parsifal’ in 1882. 

The plot takes an alternative historical turn. Wagner’s father-in-law, Franz Liszt, played by Marton Csokas, follows the couple to Venice. News of a comet headed towards Earth spurs Wagner to compose one final piece of music.

Writer-director Daniel Graham aims to create a fictionalized account of Wagner’s death in Venice, described as an homage to the great composer in the spirit of his operas.
