Vince Staples is a critically acclaimed American rapper and singer. His debut album, Summertime ’06, was released in 2015 and included the platinum-certified single ‘Norf Norf.’

He was also part of the XXL 2015 Freshman Class of up-and-coming rappers. He then went ahead to showcase his diverse artistry with his follow-up albums Big Fish Theory, Vince Staples, and Ramona Park Broke My Heart, garnering continued critical praise.

Today, we will discuss the net worth and career of this talented singer who has gained much respect in the music industry.

Vince Staples’s net worth and career beginnings

Staples has an estimated net worth of $4 million. He began his career in the late 2000s, being discovered by music industry figures Dijon “LaVish” Samo and Chuck Wun, alongside his cousin Campbell Emerson.

In 2009-2013, he made early guest appearances on tracks by artists like Earl Sweatshirt and decided to pursue rap seriously. He released his debut mixtape, Shyne Coldchain Vol. 1, in 2011.

He also did a collaborative mixtape, Winter in Prague, with Michael Uzowuru in 2012. Earl Sweatshirt reconnected with Staples that year and introduced him to Mac Miller. This led to the 2013 mixtape Stolen Youth, released under Miller’s alias Larry Fisherman.

After several appearances on Sweatshirt’s 2013 album Doris, Staples signed to Def Jam Recordings. He continued building his profile, releasing the Shyne Coldchain Vol. 2 mixtapes in 2014 and touring with Schoolboy Q that year.

His 2014 EP Hell Can Wait featured guests like Teyana Taylor. His mainstream breakthrough came with his debut studio album Summertime ’06 in 2015, preceded by singles like ‘Señorita.’

The album was critically acclaimed, debuted at #39 on the Billboard 200, and spawned the platinum hit ‘Norf Norf’ which went viral. His success on this debut laid the foundation for his now $4 million net worth.

Vince Staples’s career now

In recent years, Staples has continued to build an acclaimed music career. In 2016, he released the EP Prima Donna and an accompanying short film. 2017 saw the release of his second studio album, Big Fish Theory, which was met with widespread critical praise.

Singles like ‘BagBak’ and ‘Big Fish’ preceded the album’s release. Staples collaborated with Gorillaz on their song ‘Ascension’ in 2017 and did a North American tour with Tyler, the Creator, in 2017 and 2018.

In 2018, he released his third album, FM!, framed as a radio station takeover produced by Kenny Beats. He also contributed the track ‘Home’ to the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse soundtrack that same year.

2019 brought three new singles from Staples — ‘So What?,’ ‘Sheet Music’ and ‘Ad 01: Hell Bound’ were released alongside episodes from his YouTube show, The Vince Staples Show.

His fourth self-titled studio album, Vince Staples, arrived in 2021 to more critical acclaim. Most recently, in 2022, he released the album Ramona Park Broke My Heart on Motown Records, receiving further plaudits from critics.

Vince Staples sponsorships

Since 2015, Staples has appeared in advertising campaigns for Sprite and promoted the brand extensively on his Twitter feed. He joined Sprite’s “Obey Your Thirst” ad campaign, frequently tweeting about the soda in a quasi-sarcastic running gag about corporate sponsorships.

In 2017, Sprite went a step further by printing a lyric from Staples’ song ‘Norf Norf’ —[expletive], you thirsty, please grab a Sprite” (omitting the expletive) — onto limited edition Sprite cans.

This highlighted how Sprite embraced his offbeat sense of humor around the partnership.

More recently, in June 2022, he partnered with Acura on a launch campaign for their next-generation Integra model. He starred in three TV ad spots (“Magic,” “Lemonade,” and “Slide”) set to tracks from his 2022 album Ramona Park Broke My Heart.

He collaborated closely on the visuals, aligning the campaign’s aesthetics with his music’s style. As a Long Beach native, he felt the partnership was authentic, given Acura’s roots in Southern California.

The ads aim to inspire drivers to make the new Integra their own, connecting Staples’ identity and storytelling to the car’s marketing. The campaign will run throughout the summer of 2022.

So, he has leveraged sponsorships with Sprite and Acura in unique ways that reflect his artistic sensibilities. Far from standard celebrity endorsements, these partnerships showcase his creativity and persona being woven directly into the brands’ marketing.

Vince Staples has his show called ‘The Vince Staples Show’

Staples recently premiered his limited series on Netflix called The Vince Staples Show on February 15, 2024, following a season two role on Abbott Elementary.

The Netflix series presents a fictionalized version of Staples straddling the line between fame and obscurity.

It follows in the unconventional style of shows like Atlanta, The Eric Andre Show, Random Acts of Flyness, and I’m A Virgo. Staples is the latest addition to this wave of postmodern black comedy series.

Reviews have stated that The Vince Staples Show is an auteurist, surreal sideshow built around dramatizing the insanity of everyday life and Staples’ specific experiences navigating life as a moderately successful rapper.

The show has an off-kilter, Lynchian comedic sensibility, often delivering laughs with its bizarre premises. While it comes close to greatness, the central conceit may hold it back – Staples has a charismatic, hilarious presence in interviews that the show needs to capitalize on fully.

Critics also pointed out that instead of letting his natural humor shine through, the series casts him more as the straight man reacting to the surreal happenings of his hometown of Long Beach.

This may align with how he sees himself as simply reacting to the craziness surrounding him as a product of that environment. And the concept has proven effective in shows like Atlanta.

However, viewers feel The Vince Staples Show missed an opportunity by not leaning more into the star’s innate comedic talents. It offers an exaggerated, offbeat window into his experiences, blending fame and obscurity.

At its core, the show follows Staples, now famous and sort of wealthy, as he navigates the eccentric challenges and surprises of daily life in his hometown of Long Beach.
