Yung Gravy Net Worth
Yung Gravy jumped into the music scene with his viral hit “Mr. Clean.”
Yung Gravy first made waves in 2017 with his viral hit “Mr. Clean,” which showcased his unique style of pop-rap. Since then, he has toured the world and released several albums, including Sensational, Gasanova, and most recently, Marvelous.
The lead single from Marvelous, ‘Betty (Get Money),’ became Gravy’s first song to break into the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
With his rising fame and music streams in the tens and hundreds of millions, he has built an impressive net worth at a young age.
In this article, we take a closer look at Gravy’s career, best hits, income sources, and current net worth.
Yung Gravy’s net worth and career
Gravy has accumulated an impressive net worth of $5 million at just 27 years old. The rapper and viral internet star, whose real name is Matthew Raymond Hauri, has built his wealth in a few short years thanks to his unique style of pop-rap music and outlandish persona.
He first broke through in 2016, releasing his debut mixtape, Mr Clean, on SoundCloud. The title track became a sleeper hit, racking up millions of streams and kicking off Gravy’s career.
He followed it up with two more mixtapes in 2017 – Yung Gravity and Baby Gravy – further establishing his funk-infused and humorous brand of hip-hop.

However, it was his 2018 single ‘1 Thot 2 Thot Red Thot Blue Thot’ that genuinely launched him into the mainstream.
Since then, Gravy has released a string of successful singles and two studio albums – 2019’s Sensational and 2020’s Gasanova. He has racked up billions of combined global streams and sold-out tours across the US and Europe.
On top of music, Gravy has scored brand deals with the likes of Corona and signed a TV development deal in 2022.
With his streaming income, tour profits, merchandise sales, and other business ventures, he has grown his net worth to an estimated $5 million and counting.
Yung Gravy returned home to perform at the state fair
Gravy, originally from Rochester, Minnesota, headlined a sold-out show at the Minnesota State Fair Grandstand on August 30th, 2023.
The rapper’s home state performance was a celebratory event. However, some attendees may have mistaken the cartoonish backdrop and nursery rhyme-esque songs for a kids’ show.
Nonetheless, he represented the token hip-hop offering at the Fair this year, following other relatively vanilla rap acts tapped for the Grandstand in the past.
The 27-year-old artist embraced his Minnesota roots during the set, wearing a Timberwolves jersey and paying homage to Atmosphere’s locally adored track “Say Shh.” He even brought his mother on stage to dance and toss Fruit Loops into the crowd.
While Gravy’s nasally, blunted delivery and novelty tracks like “Oops!!!” aren’t meant to be taken too seriously, his goofy charm connected with the nearly 10,000 fans in attendance.
He sparked moments of infectious energy – handing out water bottles to toss in the air and relishing in the bras thrown on stage.
In the end, even if all Fair attendees didn’t quite understand Gravy’s ironic appeal, the home state crowd still came out in full force to welcome back one of their own.
It was a lighthearted celebration of an unusual Minnesota export who has managed to find viral fame in today’s hip-hop landscape while still embracing his Midwestern roots at a timeless summer staple event.
Yung Gravy’s legal battle with Rick Astley
In January 2023, British pop icon Rick Astley filed a lawsuit against rapper Gravy over the unauthorized usage of his voice on Gravy’s hit 2022 single “Betty (Get Money).”
The track prominently samples Astley’s smash 1987 song “Never Gonna Give You Up,” better known as the “Rickroll” meme.
While Astley granted permission for his song’s composition to be used, he did not consent to the “deliberate imitation” of his iconic baritone voice on the chorus by producer Nick Seeley.
Astley’s lawyers argued this amounted to “voice theft”. Gravy attempted to “capitalize off the immense popularity and goodwill” associated with Astley.
The lawsuit alleged the imitation was “nearly indistinguishable” from Astley’s vocals. It claimed it caused “immense damage” given how protective Astley is over his image and persona.
It sought millions of dollars in damages from Gravy, Seeley, the song’s other producers, and the record label Republic Records. By settling out of court in late February 2023, Gravy avoided a contentious and likely expensive trial over the unauthorized usage.
While exact terms were not disclosed, it can be presumed Gravy paid Astley a satisfactory sum to end the legal spat. It closes the book on what could have been a landmark case around “voice theft” in the vein of Bette Midler’s lawsuit against Ford in the 1980s.
The controversy demonstrates the legal intricacies around sampling previously recorded works in new songs.
While Gravyapplauded his team’s work in remaking “Never Gonna Give You Up” to “make it easier legally,” he clearly underestimated Astley’s willingness to protect his singular voice that made the ’87 smash so iconic.
